Battle of Westport Auto Tour This self-guided auto tour visits the 25 major sites associated with the Battle of Westport and provides a general understanding of the events which took place on Oct. 21-23, 1864. Each site is designated by a historical narrative marker describing its significance. The tour route covers 32 miles in the Kansas City Missouri metropolitan area. You may begin the route at Marker One in the historic Westport District of Kansas City Missouri located at Westport Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, the site of Federal Gen. Samuel R. Curtis’ headquarters in the Harris House Hotel. Or you may choose to begin the tour at the Battle of Westport Visitor Center and Museum located at 6601 Swope Parkway in historic Swope Park and adjacent to the Byram’s Ford Big Blue Battlefield.
